Mission Creek Nature Park
on 2 upcoming Saturdays: March 17 & 24 | 10am - 1pm
Please join us at Mission Creek Nature Park and help remove invasive plants! If we can get a jump on it early, we will make room for native species to flourish & thrive. The focus will be on removing English Ivy from trees and the forested area floor. Please dress for the weather. Gloves & tools provided, or bring your own if you prefer.
Meet at the Fir Street entrance on the park's northwest corner, at 1500 Fir St NE. Parking is limited to street parking. Please carpool, ride a bike or find alternative transportation.
The 2012 Roosevelt Elementary School Plant Sale
May 12 | 9am - noon
Dear friends and neighbors, this annual fundraiser for the Roosevelt Elementary PTA supports many school programs, including the school gardens which provide children and the community with a source of inspiration, education and fresh veggies. As you start working in your gardens to divide perennials and clear out spaces, please think of us! We will gratefully accept perennial divisions, bulbs, small trees and shrubs, grasses, and any other garden-related donations you would like to make.
We also need:- 4 to 12 inch pots for potting up donations and plant sales
- Herbs, veggies/greens and flower starts (cherry tomatoes, herbs, greens, and zucchini and other squash are all very popular)
- Green house space and foster care for seedlings grown through the school Friday Farming program
- Help with potting up seedings on April 14 or at the plant sale
Please contact us to drop off or arrange for us to pick up your donations. We would love to have them!

Help Police Reduce Vehicle Prowls
The community plays an important role in reducing vehicle break-ins, especially in neighborhoods. In
the June 2011, fifty-six (56) vehicle prowls were reported throughout
the City. Over 80% of the vehicles were unlocked or had no signs of
forced entry. Arrests were made in four (4) cases. Prowlers
will target vehicles that are unsecured or have valuables in plain
view. Usually, small but valuable items such as GPS devices, laptops,
purses or wallets are targeted. This crime often occurs in the middle of
the night when neighborhood streets are less traveled. Basic
crime prevention techniques are sometimes forgotten as weather turns
more pleasant and windows are left open. The Olympia Police Department
needs the public’s help to prevent and respond quickly to vehicle
prowls:
- Lock vehicle doors and windows
- Remove valuable items or place them out of sight
- Call 9-1-1 to report suspicious behavior, such as someone looking into car windows or trying to open multiple vehicle doors.
- Report to us if your vehicle has been prowled. This allows us to track and predict crime more effectively.
