A Note from MikeHello from your new neighborhood president! You may be one of many neighbors wondering who this new "Mike" guy is. Well, let me introduce myself. My name is Mike Dexel and my wife and I have owned property in this neighborhood for nearly 20 years. We have 2 kids ages 5 and 7, both of whom will be attending Roosevelt Elementary next year. And thanks to our former president, Peter Guttchen, I have recently realized a passion for making our neighborhood one of the best places to live in Olympia! As
we make the transition to new leadership, your NENA board members have
been busy setting priorities such as increasing our membership
(especially with younger families), and developing a more organized and
effective communication strategy. Look for changes coming soon to this NENA website,
one that is more interactive, where neighbors can go and learn about
upcoming events and to find out who to get a hold of when they have an
issue or just want to ask a question. We're going to keep doing the things that makes our neighborhood
unique such as our annual potluck in September, working with city
leaders to make improvements to walk-ability and traffic calming,
eradicating graffiti, and continuing our Mission Creek Park stewards
program. And with new leadership will come new ideas. Look for these new ideas
and projects to emerge as we move forward. I
am excited to see all of the neighbors willing to volunteer their
expertise and interest in the issues they care about the most. We have a
strong membership that is engaged, thoughtful and ready to take on new
challenges. My family and I have learned that the only way to make a difference
in the quality of life in our neighborhood is to let our voices be heard
and to get involved! As your new president, I encourage you to do the
same and welcome any feedback and thoughts you may have to help us
continue NENA’s legacy of solid neighborhood leadership. Let's continue to make our neighborhood one of the best neighborhoods in Olympia!
